Increase in the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT)
The Immigration released an article last May 28, 2024, informing that there has been an increase in the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT). TSMIT is the minimum salary requirement for employers sponsoring overseas workers on a 482 Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa, Skilled Employer Sponsored (Regional) Visa known as 494 Visa, and Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) Visa, or 186 Visa.
Last year, July 1, 2023, the TSMIT increased from $53,900 to $70,000.00. Now, starting July 1, 2024, it will increase again to $73,150.00. TSMIT ensures that overseas workers are paid fairly while protecting job opportunities. Consequently, the TSMIT increase means employers must provide higher salaries to meet the new threshold. Employers should strategically plan by considering advanced applications, salary benchmarks, and reviewing critical roles. Additionally, employees are no longer tied to specific employers, making entry and work in Australia more accessible.
This change will not affect existing visa holders and nominations lodged before July 1, 2024.
