Subsequent Visa Application for Subclass 500 Student Visa
Obtaining a student visa enables one to stay in Australia for at least a year or two for vocational courses, three years for bachelor courses and two years for masteral courses. With this, Australia is accepting applications that will allow their family to be with them throughout the study period of the student. This is what we call the Subsequent Visa Application.
A subsequent visa is applied for after the primary applicant has already been granted their visa. This type of visa is for the primary applicant’s spouse or partner, and/or their children under eighteen years old. Technically, this visa is called a Student Visa (Subsequent Entrant) – Subclass 500.
Those who apply for the said visa shall demonstrate their relationship to the primary visa holder and meet health and character requirements. Once granted they may also be allowed to study in Australia for only up to three months. Concerning work rights, the dependent can work up to 48 hours per fortnight, but some do have unlimited working rights depending on the course taken by the primary applicant such as master's and doctorate courses. When applying for a subsequent visa, it is essential to provide proof of financial capacity and health insurance coverage.
A key point about subsequent visa applications is that the duration of stay in Australia begins on the day the visa is granted and ends at the same time as the primary applicant’s visa. Truly, this visa offers an excellent chance for families to remain united while taking advantage of educational opportunities in Australia.
